The owner of this home in the Santa Clarita area wanted a less traditional outdoor living space and even with a limited budget was able to afford richer materials such as the beautiful Three Rivers stone used to give the spaces more depth. As the house gave no hints to the direction of the design, in the end the patio spaces took on a "modernist affect of strong geometries and a lightweight feel that wouldn't overpower.
The climate in Santa Clarita can be brutal with high temperatures and strong sun in the summer and cold, freezing temps in the winter; not to mention the howling winds, so plant palette choices needed to be extra tough. The photos show a very young garden that will take time to develop.
The furniture is soon to come along with canvas panels on sliding rings for the metal arbor over the seating area.
