The Parthenia Street Senior Housing Project is located within an industrial portion of the Northwest San Fernando Valley and adjacent to a single family residential neighborhood to the south. The complex provides low income housing and a sense of community to a fragile segment of the population.
MBA worked with Richard Barron Architects and Menorah Housing Foundation to create an inviting outdoor space to be enjoyed by all inhabitants.
The site features a generous 3-sided courtyard space open on one side to the busy street but disguised by a vine covered arbor. The lush and engaging landscape features a central rose garden with other flowering trees and shrubs and small rolling lawn areas. Walkways with low seat walls and benches draw the residents out to enjoy a day of sunshine and beauty.
The mostly drought tolerant landscape includes flowering Crape Myrtle, Olive, and Brisbane Box trees as well as Rosemary, Rockrose, Boxwood, and Lavender shrubs.
