This old Westinghouse office building and warehouse on San Pedro Street became part of the new exploding residential loft revolution that is changing the face of downtown during the early part of the 21st century. The lower floors of the building had been and continue to be used by toy merchants but the upper floors were converted to apartment units with high ceilings, big windows and all the amenities of modern living.
In the rear of the building, a new multistory parking garage was added for the tenants and between the two a new swimming pool, spa, and outdoor courtyard was formed for the tenants use. The concept was to create a tropical and lush garden and the use of bold colored foliage, palms, and vines creates an “oasis in the desert” so to speak within the surrounding concrete jungle.
Within the center of the building, floors were removed to create a multi-story courtyard with two of the original columns left in place and now supporting large bowl planters with cascading vines.
